1910 National X-Ray Reflector Company chandelier!
$ 99.35
- DescriptionI’m very pleased to offer this astonishing circa-1910 hanging fixture by the National X-Ray Reflector Company!The huge bowl (21-inches wide) is plaster and stunningly detailed (something possible with plaster). I love the Greek key motif. Inside the bowl are four sockets, unique to National, and each socket supports metal cages which, in turn, hold glass ‘cups’ with a mirrored outer surface — a National specialty. The ‘cups’ are marked “Eye Comfort”.How amazing is this? Because early electric light bulbs were very dim it was often necessary to amplify their wattage via mirrors. Due to the heat of incandescent bulbs, a lot of the mirrored finish has flaked off, particularly with one ‘cup’. Heat would not be an issue with LED bulbs.And the fixture is wonderfully original: The finish on the bowl. Chains. Ceiling canopy.By having the illumination thrown onto the ceiling, a highly flattering, diffused quality of light results.The bowl hangs from four chains, attaching to a sphere cluster. I love this kind of detail.The scale is imposing at 21-inches wide, and 29-inches long. I can adjust the height up/down; just let me know!Today, of course, one can use very bright bulbs. I urge clear LED bulbs, say 100W-equivalent. I show round LED bulbs but a different shape is advised, like with a bit of a neck, as in traditional incandescent bulbs.If you are a connoisseur of unique and rare vintage lighting, this remarkable fixture may be ideal for your home.With new wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!DETAILS: The fixture accepts standard base 60W bulbs (not included). See above, as well. COLOR: Cream with an antique glazing, gold. SIZE: See above. CONDITION: See above as to the condition of the mirrored finishes. The glass ‘cups’ have no cracks or chips. The painted finish shows wear overall and small bits of loss. I touched up the gold banding. The sockets are original (and in fine shape) with new wiring. The new vertical wires are cloth-covered. Nice. There are minor chips to the plaster overall. SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
